NightWing Enterprises is pleased to announce our full endorsement of the developer certification initiative by FileMaker Inc. We are proud to confirm that we were among the first developers in the world to meet the requirements for FileMaker certification - we are FileMaker 7 certified, FileMaker 8 certified, FileMaker 9 certified, FileMaker 10 certified, FileMaker 11 certified, FileMaker 12 certified and also FileMaker 13 certified!
Developer certification is a significant step and confirms the industry standing of FileMaker and its established body of developers and professionals. Each major FileMaker version since the release of FileMaker 7 in 2004 has represented a significant increase in the scope of the application and in the demands made of those who choose to work with it. We are among developers worldwide who clearly signal that they embrace the technology FileMaker offers for the present and the future - and we are prepared to demonstrate this.
What is certification? It is an independently run process of examination which presents developers with a rigorous and challenging test of their knowledge and capability. Having passed through this process we can confirm that the procedures and the tests themselves are thorough and fair. We are confident that the 'FileMaker Certified Developer badge can be taken to signify that its holders have the core knowledge required for high-level development and deployment of FileMaker solutions.
Certification is a carefully monitored and externally authenticated process by which a developer is required to demonstrate significant and detailed knowledge of the FileMaker Pro programming environment, including:
- Product metrics, capabilities and specifications
- Database design methodologies and data architectures
- The calculation engine and advanced coding practices
- Application automation and complex scripting chalenges
- Integration and interchange of data between platforms and products
- Deployment options and optinal configuration considerations
FileMaker Inc had this to say about the introduction of a developer certification process:
"[certification provides] validation that the consultant is a
FileMaker Certified Developer and has the technical knowledge
of the complete FileMaker product line..."
It is our view that certification benefits customers and developers alike. It raises the standards of development across the board, setting a new standard for both amateur and professional developers. At the same time, it signals the maturity of the FileMaker product suite, of FileMaker as a development platform and of the industry within which this process is occurring. Most importantly, however, certification provides clients and prospective clients with a level of confidence about the commitment and capabilities of those on whom they depend for technology advice and support.
