NightWing Enterprises — Demo for FileMaker Pro™ 10 Auto-Highlight the Active Row in List View! Active Highlight (v3)   For FileMaker 10   As a courtesy to fellow developers and potential clients, the following demonstration file is provided for free download. This is by no means the only demo of automatic list-view highlighting around - and in fact (as the name suggests) we've published two of them before ourselves. However we think this is the best one we've seen to date and that's why it is included here. To put it simply, this technique uses a layout object, an OnRecordLoad trigger and a one-line script to provide automatic highlighting of the active record in a list view layout. The highlighting is instantaneous and works regardless of how you navigate between records (via the keyboard, via the overhead menus, by clicking directly into the list, by using the Status Toolbar, by performing a Find, by clicking a button or by running a script). Moreover this technique requires no fields in your solution and works across multiple windows (that is, different records can be selected in the views of the same layout in multiple windows and the correct record will show as highlighted in each). Perhaps the best things about this technique are the speed with which it operates and the ease of implementation. Because it uses no fields, the impact on your solution is minimal and it is about as portable as a technique can be. Three steps and a matter of minutes is all it takes to get it working from scratch in a brand new file or within an existing solution.
